Obituary of Mary Royldene Hartman

Mrs. Royldene Hartman, age 74, passed away on September 4, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband,
Donald Hartman. At the age of only 18, Royldene became the youngest business woman in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she operated
and owned Dean's Dunker Dount Shop. In her early twenties, Royldene had her own Sunday afternoon T.V. talk show with K.L.A.B.
in Alexandria, LA. Over the years Royldene attended ten colleges and universities all over the world. Among them were the
University of London, Cambridge, Oxford, University of Moscow and the Sorbonne in Paris. She held a B.A. degree in education from
Birmingham Southern University and both a double masters degree and AA Certification from the University of Montevallo. Royldene
retired in 1998 after 38 years as an educator with Jefferson County Public Schools. Along the way she taught elementary grades,
served as Elementary Coordinator for the system and was for ten years the principal of Gwin Elementary School in Hoover.
Royldene and her husband first lived in Honolulu, Hawaii where she worked briefly for a local roadio station and later
taught at the Fort Shafter Educational Center. After 38 years in Birmingham, they enjnoyed their golden years together at their
retirement homes in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and on the shores of Logan Martin Lake in Talladega County, Alabama. The Hartmans
were just three weeks short of their fiftieth anniversary.
