Obituary of A. James Thornton
Please share a memory of A. James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
A graveside service for James Thornton, 48, will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, AL. Pastor Pat Worsham is officiating.
Mr. Thornton, born September 21, 1978, in Orlando, FL, died Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in his home in Talladega AL. James grew up around Auburn, AL. After high school he enlisted to serve his country as a Marine. After being injured during training, he went on to graduate from Auburn University with his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. James loved his family and friends like no other. He happily gave many hours of his time to Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), an organization he strongly believed in. He loved to work on ancestry, talk to anyone about the SCV, travel anywhere, spoil his feline fur-babies, and cheer for his favorite football team, Auburn Tigers “War Damn Eagle”. His one wish for the longest time was to hear from his estranged children. He was able to have one call, days before his death where he was able to express his love and desire to know them all.
He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Walter Thornton; his mother, Patsy Jane Thornton; and his niece, Taylor Thornton.
He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Dana; his seven children, Daniel, Gwendolyn,
Cheyenne, Ramona, Jesse, Fiona and Elias, of Auburn; his two “bonus” children, Jason Prouty (Sarah) of Ville Platte, LA and Walker Prouty, of Cropwell, AL; three brothers, Curtis (Kay) of Opelika, AL; Lee (Lisa) of Lexington, AL; David (Ashley) of Opelika, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorial contributions be made to Sons of Confederate Veterans, PO Box 59, Columbia, TN 38402 or though their website at: https://donate.scv.org.
