Obituary of Dr. Dawson Leigh Murphy

Dr. Dawson Leigh Murphy, 76, of Talladega, Alabama passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024. A celebration of life will be held in his honor at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 02, 2024 at First Methodist Church of Talladega with Todd Henderson officiating. His family will receive friends immediately after the service. Dr. Murphy was a native of Atlanta, Georgia, but lived in Talladega for most of his life where he was a member of First Methodist Church of Talladega. He was a graduate of Northside High School in Atlanta, GA, Davidson College in Davidson, NC, and Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. After completing his surgical residency in Savannah, GA, he was a partner in Talladega Surgery with Dr. Charles Lambert and Dr. David Roberts. Dr. Murphy also made many trips to Honduras as a medical missionary with Dr. Clay Davis and many other dedicated volunteers. Dr. Murphy was very active in the Boys Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, membership in the Order of the Arrow, and serving as a camp counselor at Bert Adams Boy Scout Camp in Covington, Georgia. He also spent many years serving as a member of the White Flag Club at Talladega Superspeedway. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Louodine Murphy. Dr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Georgeanna Murphy, son, Michael Murphy and his wife, Holly, and granddaughter, Ashlie Murphy.
