My introduction to Carl came in the summer of 1975, when I became friends with Martha Jo and Julie through Julie’s participation in girls’ fast pitch softball. I was Julie’s favorite umpire. One day, Martha Jo told me her husband, Carl Monroe, wanted us to meet. She had shared with Carl how I looked after Julie and tried to make things fun and fair during games. After our introduction, Carl asked me if I was on the registry for employment as a rehabilitation counselor. I answered yes, and he said I had a job that Monday if I wanted it. Martha Jo was standing behind him smiling! I realized she had told Carl to hire me. This was a God-sent blessing.
Knowing Mr. Monroe and having him as area supervisor in the Department of Rehabilitation Services provided over 25 years of great memories.
