Obituary of James Wayne Washam

James Wayne "Rocky" Washam passed away on Thursday, December 11 at
the age of 68 after a battle with cancer.
A native of Talladega County, Washam graduated from Winterboro High
School, attended Auburn University and earned a Bachelor of Science in
accounting degree from Jacksonville State University. He served in the US
Army as an E-6 staff sergeant during the Vietnam Conflict where he earned
a purple heart and the army commendation medal for meritorious service.
Washam worked as a Certified Public Accountant for 42 years. He began his
career as an accountant with Camp, Camp and Camp Accounting Firm and
later became a partner with Camp and Associates.
Washam was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 40 years,
serving as church treasurer and as treasurer of FUMC foundation.
He was an avid golfer and loved Auburn football. He enjoyed many golf
trips with the KinglConnover golf group. In his later years, he became an
avid gardener; and loved sharing his crops with friends.
Washam was preceded in death by his parents, Anita Paris Washam and
Noah Lee Washam.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlotte Searcy Washam; son, Kyle
Searcy Washam; sister, Glenda (Larry) Fansher; mother-in-law, Dean
Searcy; sister-in-law, Joy (Gerald) Bittle; two nieces, Mandy (Patrick)
Thornton; Jennifer (Obed) Ellis; and 5 great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday from 11:30-12:30 at First United Methodist
Church. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 at Pine Hill Mausoleum.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Redcatchers of the 199th Light Infantry
Brigade (veterans who served with Rocky), Jeffry Camp, Jacky Edmiston
and the King/Connover golf group.
