Obituary of James Louis "Jimmy" Norred Jr.

James Louis “Jimmy” Norred Jr. died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 after a noble battle with Parkinson’s. A graveside ceremony will be held in his honor at noon on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Oak Hill Cemetery.His brother-in-law, Roger Watson, from Marietta, GA will be speaking at the service. His family and friends knew him as Sugar Pop, a fun-loving prankster, world class storyteller and man that loved God and family more than anything in the world. He was a great friend to many and was quick to offer whatever he had to those in need. He was bigger than life and our loss is certainly heaven’s gain. He led the Alabama School for the Deaf football team to the 1971 National Championship. He served as a Talladega City Councilman and Police Commissioner in the early ‘80s and spent the balance of his professional career supporting the farming community with ALFA Federation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mary Norred; brother, John P. Norred; sisters, Mary James Harris and Flora Mae Pope, and grandson, Landon Travis Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 60 wonderful years, Martha Watson Norred; daughter, Hyland (Jeffry) Camp; son, Jim (Amy) Norred; grandchildren, Carly Camp, Carson (Madison) Camp, Nealie (Graham) Beeland, Nick Norred, Cade Wilson, and Alec Wilson. He was so excited to welcome his first precious great grandchild into the world this August, but we know he will be watching over her from above. His four grandsons, Carson, Cade, Nick, Alec, and lifelong friend, Dan Kearley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Harris, Bill Camp, and Al Hammonds. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Norred's family asks that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at give.michaeljfox.org or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at lls.org.
