Just sometimes you stop the world to remember a great. Today was that sometime. I had the honor of calling my friend, Genie Gaither Jones' mother, friend. She was funny, witty, kind, principled, a great conversationalist and took no prisoners when she played board games. Julia Gaither will be missed by so many. I will remember the times she focused on me. Because isn't that what we all do? We love the people who love us. I guess that is the big lesson I have learned from the Gaither's.
Julia played an 80-point round of Scrabble with Genie and I just one week before she died. She was so upset because she was having a hard time writing, until I reminded her that she was winning by over 100 points (plus). She played Scrabble for over 60 years and had one of the original board games.
I will miss my long conversations with her. I will miss hearing about her love of God, the Church of Christ, her husband Gene, who passed before her and the stories of Genie's childhood.
Some people are just not replaceable. Some people are just so damn unique and authentic, they show us how to be.
RIP, Julia Gaither. Always loved. Definitely never forgotten.
