The last time I saw Mason he was doing his job, a great one at that, at St. Vincent’s St. Clair. It was very late, I believe midnight or after, and I was trying to get to a family member that had just lost a loved one. Mason was the first face I saw as I entered the ER, he explained protocol, thanks Covid, and was so sincere in getting me to my family that night. There was a light about him while doing his job, even in the middle of the night. He was kind and helpful. If I’m not mistaken he was reading his Bible as I walked up. Mason was also the last face I saw as I left the hospital and although he could have said nothing as my family member and I walked by he didn’t. He didn’t ask questions about our loss, he didn’t have a long conversation with us, he simply said Have a blessed night as we walked out of the ER.
Mason didn’t recognize me that night, not sure if he would even remember me from a previous church we both attended, but I remembered him, and thought of his sweet momma that night, and was so proud to know him. He left an impression that night and I’m sure there are so many others that he has done the same with while being the light in someone’s moment of sickness, pain, and/or loss.
