Annie Pearl Martin Alverson, a follower of Christ, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2021. She has now received her eternal reward and is worshiping at the feet of Jesus. She will be remembered for her faith, her caring and giving spirit, her love for family and friends, her sweet smile, warm hugs, her sense of humor, and her words of encouragement. She was born on September 16, 1933 and in her 87 years she was a blessing to family, friends, and all who knew her. She graduated Ragland High School in 1951. Shortly after graduation she married the love of her life, Clarence D. (Bo) Alverson and together they raised three children and shared life for 67 wonderful years. She epitomized the Proverbs 31 woman. Her hands were never idle. She was an accomplished seamstress and skilled in the art of crochet. She was a talented cook and gardener who always kept the freezer and pantry stocked with the bounty of her garden, the fruit of which she was always willing to share. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed attending countless ballgames and performances in which her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, sister, and brother-in-law and loved seeing the beauty of our wonderful country. She was very active in her church, serving in many areas of ministry as a teacher, mentor, and encourager. Annie Pearl was the communicator of family news and kept everyone informed and connected far and wide thus earning the affectionate nickname “AP” (for Associated Press). She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Douglas Alverson, her parents Virdie and L. G. Martin, her brother Ray Martin, and her sister Ruby Henderson. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Landry and husband Ron of Leeds; her two sons, James Alverson of Pell City, and Jeff Alverson and wife Laura of Sanford, NC; grandchildren Michael Landry and wife Jodi of Columbus, IN, Kate Gaston and husband David of Baltimore, MD, Martin Landry and wife Janice of New York, NY, Shannon Alverson of Ragland, Jamie DeFreese and husband Scott of Cook Springs, Christy Allen of Swanville, MN, James Alverson and wife Sarah of Sanford, NC, Carol Alverson of Morrisville, NC; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and sister-in-law Frances Martin of Miami, FL, as well as several dearly loved nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Juanell Redwine and April St. John for their care and compassion in Annie Pearl’s last days. Visitation will be on Friday, February 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home in Wattsville, AL and Saturday, February 6th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pope’s Chapel Community Church, 1218 Pope’s Chapel Rd, Ragland, AL 35131. The funeral will be held at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6th with burial following the service in the adjoining cemetery. The funeral home chapel is spacious and will enable social distancing to be observed. The church is small so social distancing will be more difficult at that service. There will be an opportunity to fellowship afterwards in the outdoor pavilion at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Pope’s Chapel Cemetery Association, PO Box 1231, Pell City, AL 35125. Condolences may be offered online at usreyfuneralhome.com. Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City, is in charge of arrangements.
