Pell City, Alabama - Dr. Kevin Denis Reilly, 82, of Pell City, Alabama passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020.
Dr. Reilly earned his Ph.D. from The University of Chicago. He started his teaching career as a professor at UCLA in 1966. In 1970, he began his professional career as a Biomathematical Physicist at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he was instrumental in establishing the Computer and Information Science Program. In 1984, he was appointed Professor of Computer and Information Science at UAB and had a long and distinguished career. He was a senior member of the Modeling and Simulation Society, a Monbusho fellow (Japan), and a member of the European Academy of Sciences. He also was a Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society designee, a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, and a US Public Health Service Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Reilly made it to 23 countries and all 50 states! He immensely enjoyed teaching, reading poetry, traveling, and arguing topics that wise people knew to avoid: religion and politics!
Dr. Reilly was a devout Catholic with a love for the Holy Rosary. He was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
Preceding Dr. Reilly in death were his parents, Brian Augustine Reilly and Dorothy Dare Reilly; and his brothers, Brian Anthony Reilly and Neil Martin Reilly.
Dr. Reilly is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Grace Reilly; son, Martin Louis Reilly (Cathy); daughters, Eileen Reilly Livengood (Michael) and Shannon Denise Ray (John); grandchildren, Sara Marie Reilly, Adam Louis Reilly, Thomas Aykhan Ray, Philip Atanas Ray, and Teresa Lubka Ray.
Arrangements for a memorial mass will be announced at a later date.
