My wife, Kay, and I send our condolences to the family of Dr. Kevin D. Reilly. Kevin and I were graduate students
at the University of Nebraska (Lincoln), ca 1959-1961. We were both from Omaha, he having graduated from Creighton,
and I from the University of Omaha (now University of Nebraska at Omaha). We resided in the Selleck Quadrangle on the
Lincoln campus, and with other grad students often had evening meals together. As I recall, we may have shared rides on week-end trips home to Omaha.
As his obituary said, Kevin was not bashful about expressing his views on hot topics. That said, he did so respectfully, and I would
not be surprised if his background at a Jesuit school was highly relevant to this process. Certainly, there were plenty of lively
topics to discuss!
I lost contact with Kevin when I moved off-campus in 1961, and in 1963, I joined the History faculty at UN-O; finished my
Ph.D. at Lincoln in 1965, and retired from UN-O in 2003. Kevin had a spended career, and the sorrow of his passing blends with happy recollections of shared experiences six decades ago.
