She will be much missed by the extended Adair Family, as well as her family in Scotland, her Eastaboga Baptist Church Family, her Crawford Long Family, her Wellstar Family, her long-time friends and her traveling buddies that all knew and loved the special woman she was.
Susan was the was a kind and good soul, always smiling and easily the sweetest person in a room. She loved to read and spent a lot of time, especially after she got sick, sitting on the back deck of the house reading and watching the river and wildlife go by. She loved to travel and was always up for a trip to the beach or the mountains, a cruise to anywhere, or a drive across the state line or across the country to visit friends along the way. She enjoyed being on the Coosa River, riding a jet ski or on a pontoon boat watching eagles nesting. She loved being with her family, both the adopted and the real. Her favorite times were those she could spend with her sisters and brothers-in-law, her nieces and nephews and their families camping, in Georgia at their homes, or with her adopted family at her home in Alabama. They were precious to her.
Susan had a long career in Nursing, she worked many hard years at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia where she was a cardiac surgery nurse extraordinaire. She taught hundreds of nurses, fellows and scrub techs how to scrub correctly and anticipate the surgeon’s needs, that was her special gift. Surgeons across the country are better because of her. She also worked at Wellstar Hospital in Marietta, Georgia where she continued working in Open Heart Surgery showing by her excellent example. She retired from there in 2017 when her illness began. She had love and respect from the everyone she worked with.
Susan gifted us all with her example of how to live, even with cancer, those that met her, sat with her or visited her, even in her last days, say they were blessed by her grace in the face of adversity. The loss in all our lives is huge.
Pallbearers will be Jim Baltes, Chris Baltes, Mike Martin, Shuan Barnett, Tommy Carlisle and Neal "Possum" Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Mitchell, Jackie Garrett and Jerrell Garrett
The family is so grateful for the staff at Alacare for assisting with her care. Many thanks also go out to all those that generously gave their time to sit with her and be with her until the end.
