Obituary of J W Baker

Mr. J W Baker 89, of Talladega passed away March 25, 2017, Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 2:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Wes Johnson will officiate and burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park, Talladega AL. His family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00pm Wednesday. Mr. Baker died at home with family and his beloved dogs BJ and GiGi. Mr. Baker was a lifelong residence of Talladega County and the Bemiston Community. He loved Bemiston and was affectionately known as “The unofficial Mayor of Bemiston” by all who knew him. He was employed by Bemis Company for over 40 years and remained as a consultant to TMI and Nikki Lu. He was always active in the community as a member of the Lions Club, the ARC, Talladega Planning Commission and a Charter member of the Talladega Rescue Squad for approximately 20 years. He volunteered for many years with the Sheriff’s Department spanning the tenure of five sheriff’s as well as the Fire Department. He was always available to his friends and neighbors in need. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Gambrell Baker, parents John and Minnie Baker, sister Daphene Distler, brothers Alvin and Odell Baker Survivors include daughter, Phyllis Baker, sister, Bobbye Trammell, sister, Gay Batchelor (Windle) and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Don Baker, Tommy Batchelor, Bob Gambrell, Bob Lovelady, Victor Touchstone, Austin Touchstone, Whit Lovelady, Grant Lovelady, Gary Trammell, and Pat Trammell. Honorary Pallbearers J.W. Knight, Coosa Valley Hospice, the Bemiston Community and his beloved B. J.
