To the Family of William Malone: I was saddened to see that Mr. Malone died. I can still see him seated in the balcony of 1st Baptist Church Talladega at Sunday service with Dr. T.M. Hamby preaching. He was a dear friend of my dad. He and dad shared a lot in common. Both were Auburn graduates; both were members of 1st Baptist Church Talladega; and both were members of the Talladega Rotary Club. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mr. Malone at NHC Place. He was always cheerful. Mr. Malone represented to me what it means to be an Auburn man. The following excerpts from the Auburn Creed come to mind: I believe in work, hard work... I believe in education... I believe in honesty and truthfulness... I believe in a strong mind, in a strong body, and a spirit that is not afraid... I believe in obedience to law... I believe in human touch... I believe in my Country... I believe in Auburn and love it... I shall miss him. I hope the first "War Eagle" he hears in heaven comes from my dad. JAKE B. MATHEWS, JR.
