Graveside service for Mary Willene Haygood Thornton, 91, of Talladega, will be Sunday at 2 PM at Pine Hill Memorial Park. Rev. Ted Peterson will officiate. Her family will receive friends Sunday from 12-1:30 PM at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega. Mrs. Thornton was a native of Tuscaloosa, AL, then resided in Haleyville, AL. She moved to Talladega with her husband 35 years ago. She was also a resident of Savannah, GA for the past six years. Her husband was the Editor/Publisher of The Talladega Daily Home. She is preceded in death by her husband Ransom Jay Thornton and son, Ransom Haygood Thornton and grandson, Chuck Whitten. Her survivors include her son, Stan Thornton of Savannah, GA, daughter, Carol Thornton of Haleyville, AL, grandchildren: Tanya Thornton of Silver Hill, AL, Debbie Thornton of Pensacola, FL and Paige Thornton of Blairsville, GA; Chris Thornton of Naples, FL; Patrick Thornton of Talladega, AL; Anne Louise Boiles of Birmingham, AL; Brian Whitten of Russellville, AL; Michele Brannon of Haleyville, AL; Robbie Whitten of Tuscumbia, AL; sisters: Mildred Wiley of Brunswick, GA, and Lucille Staiger of Palmyra, VA, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
