I did not know Ralph Gaines, Sr., but want to express my sorrow at the loss of such a great man to so many. His shoes will be most difficult to fill. I have the pleasure of knowing his son, Rad, and from all accounts that Rad has told me of his father, the entire Gaines family has reason to smile and have deep gratitude for the years that Ralph Sr. was here on earth, sharing time with each of them. I pray that his entire family and all his friends and acquaintances, will carry on the legacy that Ralph Sr. leaves.

We have lost one of the "true Southern Gentlemen" of Alabama. Your family will be in our prayers as you remember Ralph and what he meant to your family, the community and the state. I remember cutting school in the 9th grade to watch a trial that he and my dad were on opposite sides. He was quite a remarkable lawyer and my family had great respect for him. Our love goes out to all of you. Love, Mac
