Funeral services for William L. Buck Nixon, 70 of Talladega will be Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Munford Baptist Church at 11 AM. Brother Tim Thomas and Rev. Frankie Sweeny will officiate and burial will follow in Pine Hill Memorial Park. His family will receive friends Friday from 5-8 PM at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.
He will lie in state Saturday from 10-11 AM.
Mr. Nixon passed away October 5, 2011 at Trinity Medical Center.
Mr. Nixon is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paulette Nixon, daughters: Janet Gaither and Jennifer Nixon, grandsons: Patrik Sewell, Dylan Gaither, Chance Shiflett, sisters: Patricia Parker of Dickinson, TX., and Mary Adair, brothers: Charles Melvin Nixon, James D. Nixon, sister-in-law, Deborah Watson, numerous nieces and nephews, and his precious companion, Cocoa.
Buck was a native and life long resident of Talladega, a US Army Veteran, a graduate of Gadsden State, a member of Carpenters for Christ, a 32nd Degree Mason and an avid University of Alabama fan.
Mr. Nixon was a long time member and deacon of Munford Baptist Church. He was a former Treasurer and a long time music leader as well. He also sang with the church quartet. He was music director at Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
After he retired from Anniston Army Depot, with 34 years of service, he managed The Fishers of Men Christian Bookstore.
Pallbearers will be his nephews: Jason and Jeremy Watson, Wayne and Michael Nixon, Scott Armbrester, David and Steven Horn, and Doug Nixon.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Munford Baptist Church and Ken Bradford, John Suddeth, George Armbrester, Harold Woodard, Mike Mc Burnett, Ricky Sellers, Tom Smith, Tom Fowler, Dick Linkel, Billy Wright, Alton Cowan, Jake Sewell, Jack Adams, Julian Newman and Ed Hale.
