Obituary of Ben Kershaw Cater

Funeral services for Mr. Ben Kershaw Cater, 85, will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at 1:00pm at Usrey Chapel with Rev. Gerry Davis officiating. Mr. Cater passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011, in Carrollton, Georgia. He was born in Talladega, Alabama on November 6, 1925, the son of the late Louis Anderson Cater, Sr. and the late Edith Geneva Kershaw Cater. He was a resident of Talladega county his entire life. He was a Navy veteran, having served during WWII. Mr. Cater was retired from the Talladega County Road Department, where he had been employed for 34 years. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and had served as Deacon for many years prior to declining health. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and watching the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs baseball teams.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Ray Cater, who died on August 17, 2011. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, brother- Louis Anderson Cater, Jr., sister- Mary Frances Cater Spencer, and sister-Edith Louise Cater Edwards.
Mr. Cater is survived by his son and daughter-in law, Ken and Paula Cater, of Carrollton, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandson, Michael Cater (Beth), and his granddaughter, Meighan Cater Browning (Ben), and great-grandson Colton Cater all of Carrollton, Georgia. Additional survivors include a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Juanita and Thomas Pitts, of Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, October 3, 2011, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Michael Cater, Ben Browning, Tommy Spencer, Benny Ray, Rick Ray, and Bill Burns.
