Nan Whatley Carlson, 80 of Talladega, passed away September 1, 2011 at her home. She was born May 19, 1931 in holly Pond Alabama. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1951 and married Carl (Jack) Carlson 58 years ago in Lincoln Alabama. Her parents were Talmadge and Eunice Whatley. Talmadge was the pastor of Lincoln Baptist Church from 1949 through 1962.
Her survivors include her husband, Carl (Jack) Carlson, children, Jack Carlson, Terry Carlson and wife Shirley, both of Talladega, Cindy Carlson Desa and husband Hilaire, of Cedar Park, TX, grandchildren, Brandy Carlson Gaither (Jason) of Talladega, Beth Carlson Smotherman (Michael) of Montevallo, TJ Carlson (Matt Caylor) of Pinson, AL, Calvin Carlson, (Kayla) of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Nathan Desa, Daniel Desa, both of Austin TX, great-grandchildren, Michaela Bright, Carly Bright, Chloe Smotherman, Harrison Carlson, siblings, Mackie Whatley Cummings (Mrs. Bob Cummings), Lula GA, Joe Whatley and wife Clyde of Falkville, AL, Bob Whatley and wife Sara of Oxford, AL, Dr. Tom Whatley and wife Rosalyn of Muscle Shoals, AL.
Mrs. Carlson was a member of Northside Baptist Church since 1962. She taught Sunday School Classes and was an active member of the WMU. She retired from Crown Textile after working 22 years.
Her family request that memorial donations be made to the Alabama Womens Missionary Union.
