Obituary of Marvin Preston

Marvin Ronald Preston "Starvin Marvin" Funeral services for Mr. Marvin Ronald Preston, 62, will be Sunday, February 27, 2011, 3 p.m., at Usrey Chapel, with Larry Wells officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Preston died Friday, February 25, 2011 at his residence. "Starvin Marvin" Marvin Roland Preston was born July 28, 1948 to Zachery and Mary (Hazel) Preston in Oceola, AK. He was raised in New Hope, AL. Marvin moved to Talladega in 1966. He worked for a local taxi driver service where he met the love of his life, Mable Bridges. Marvin and Mable were married October 19, 1968. In 1969 Marvin was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served with distinction and was awarded "The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze Service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Sharpshooter Rifle Medal. Marvin owned Marvin's Paint and Body Shop and Wrecker Service of Talladega. Survivors are his wife, Mable Preston of Alpine; daughters, Betty Preston Black and husband Marty of Talladega and Janie Graves Gable of Talladega' grandchildren, Kayla Horn, William Black, Ryan Henderson and Kaleigh Gable; brother, Thurman Ray Preston of New Hope; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, February 26, 2011, 6 to 8 p.m. at Usrey. Pallbearers are Tim Bowman, Mark McDowell, Jay Milam, Doug Gortney, Adam Stanford, David Standford Honorary pallbearers are Jack Daniel, Jerry Wayne Bridges, Troy Queen, Terry Wideman, Larry Gortney, Jessie Bridges, Everitt Pollard and Ray Milam.
