Obituary of Melba Anne Gilbert

Mrs. Gilbert passed away Sunday, January 23, 3011 at Brookwood Medical Center, Birmingham. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 15, 1941. Preceded in death by her parents, William Bradford Caldwell and Melba Selman Robinson. Graduated from Winterboro High School. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Education. Several years later she received a Masters in Early childhood Education from Samford University. She achieved numerous educational awards while in college. After college, she spent her career with Vestavia and Jefferson County School Systems, enjoying teaching young children. She retired in 2004. After retirement, she loved spending time with her three grandsons, gardening and helping others. She leaves behind her devoted husband, John L Gilbert; two children, Steve Allison (Sandi), Sally Allison Clark (Brett); and 3 grandsons, Connor Allison, Andrew Abele, and Bradford Abele. They called her Meb-Meb.
