He was a long-time member of Free and Accepted Masons of Alabama, Dolcito Lodge # 596. He was a devoted family man who loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita "Honey" Townsend, daughters Barbara Ann Townsend and Jana Sims Worthington, and by a grandson Gerald Carley Sims Poe.
