Obituary of Donald "Duck" Carl McKay

Mr. Donald "Duck" Carl McKay, 80, of Ashville, Alabama was born on June 9, 1944 and passed away on January 20, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Grace McKay, brothers, Rick McKay and Jim McKay; brother-in-law, James "Shorty" Hudgins; and nephew, Jerry "Buckshot" McKay.
Donald was a life-long resident of Ashville and worked for the State Highway Department for forty-one years. He retired in April 2007. He was a hard worker for all of his life and a great provider for his family. He loved to cut wood, plant a garden, go hunting with his son and anything that he could do outside. He was a man that could not just sit still and do nothing. He loved his family dearly and his greatest love was being PawPaw to his grandson and great-grandsons. They were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Christine McKay; daughter, Sherry McKay; son, Donnie McKay (Staci); grandson, Dalton McKay (Jewell); great-grandsons, Daxtyn McKay, Brynlee McKay; Bennett Davis, and Maverik Davis; brothers, Randy McKay (Gayle) and Robert McKay (Gina); sister, Debra Hudgins; sisters-in-law, Jeanette McKay and Marie McKay; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home - Pell City from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The funeral service will be held at Usrey Funeral Home - Pell City at 11:00 am on Friday, January 24, 2025, with Pastor Greg Ashley officiating and Donnie McKay officiating. Interment will be at Reeves Grove Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Dalton McKay, Roger McKay, Randy McKay Jr., Joel McKay, Korey McKay, and Roger Peace. Honorary pallbearers are Jordan McKay, Terry Hudgins, and Chuck McKay.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Robert McKay and Jeanette McKay for their love and help and to Compassus Hospice and Jeff and Dee for all that was done for Duck during this time.
