Obituary of Horace Wesley Ponder

Horace Wesley Ponder, 86, of Talladega, AL passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Cragdale Baptist Church with Sam Walker and Mickey Barnett officiating. His family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow directly after the service at Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Ponder was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. He was also a lifelong member of Cragdale Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and song leader. Mr. Ponder was a former employee at G.C. Collier Construction and later went on to retire from Hale Construction after 31 years of service. He was a proud founding and board member of the Berney Station Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Margaret Ponder, and brothers, Preston Ponder and Ralph Ponder. Mr. Ponder is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dianne Ponder; sons, Rodney Ponder and Kyle Ponder (Marla); grandchildren, Holly Alldredge (Drenon) and Dean Ponder (Autumn); great-grandchildren, Whitley Alldredge, Tarah Alldredge, and Raelyn Ponder; nieces, Patty Eavenson and Cindy Powell, and nephews, Harvey Ponder and Richie Ponder. Drenon Alldredge, Richie Ponder, Frankie Blankenship, Harvey Ponder, Dean Ponder, and Billy Ray Wills will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Ponder’s family asks that donations be made in his memory to Cragdale Baptist Church, 2149 Berney Station Rd., Talladega, AL 35160.
