Viola June Brascho, 93, of Pell City, Alabama, passed away on October 7, 2024. She was born to parents Matthew Young and Iva Young on June 11th, 1931, in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Canada. She and her parents moved to West Liberty, Iowa, in the late 1930s. She graduated from West Liberty High School in 1950 and pursued education at the University of Iowa, graduating with a degree in Physical Education. June met Donn Joseph Brascho, MD, in 1955 whom she married on June 24, 1956, in West Liberty, Iowa. June and her husband, Donn, moved to Pell City in 1967 with their six young children, where she became an integral part of the community. She demonstrated a deep commitment to her children's education by serving as an officer in the Parent Teacher Organization. Her passion for children’s education led her to volunteer and establish a Physical Education program and library at Coosa Valley Elementary, ensuring a well-rounded education for the community’s youth. June continued to support her community by serving as a board member and president of the Pell City Schools Educational Foundation. Beyond education, the impact of June’s dedication to the betterment of her community was profound and far-reaching, as she faithfully invested her time in areas in which she was deeply passionate. She was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church of Pell City, the Pell City Civic Chorus, and the first female member and president of the Rotary Club of Pell City, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow award from The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. June's outstanding volunteer work was recognized through various accolades, including being named the American Cancer Society 1986 Volunteer of the Year and serving as the Relay for Life Chairman. She co-chaired the United Way of Central Alabama for St. Clair County and was honored as the Woman of the Year by the Pell City Business and Professional Women in 1992-1993. June leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her community. Her spirit and contributions will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. Through a balance of faith, family, and community, she uniquely made it all look easy. As a cornerstone and pillar of strength, her impact on her family can never be measured or forgotten. She is survived by her husband of 68 years Donn Brascho, MD, and her children: Brock Brascho (Pam), Jace Brascho (Jo), Brad Brascho (Cherry), Kent Brascho (Irene), Jill Rutledge (Fred), and Joy Steed (Gary): her brother: Don Young (Audrey), her grandchildren: Joseph Brascho (Lauren), Andrea Brascho Lynch (Chad), Alexandra Brascho Spickard (Paul), Brooke Brascho, Matthew Brascho, Marlee Johnson, Max Johnson, Jonathon Ferrell (Teresa), Andrew Pate (Kim), Lauren Steed, Garrett Steed, Blake Steed, Grant Steed, and Gaynon Woolwine; her great-grandchildren: Jace and Olivia Brascho, Kalista, Emily, and Chloe Ferrell, Oaklee Pate, and Ethan Lynch, her nephew and nieces: Darren Hansen, Hilary Hansen, Heather Young, and Tracy Young Stack. June was predeceased by her parents, Matt and Iva Young, and her nephew, Matt Young. June’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, October 13, 2024, beginning with visitation and celebration from 1:00 to 2:45 PM in The Beacon of First Methodist Church Pell City. The funeral service will start at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary, followed by an interment at Valley Hill Cemetery. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Pell City FUMC, The American Cancer Society, United Way of Central Alabama, and Lakeside Hospice, Pell City, Alabama.
