Obituary of David P. Rankin
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. David P. Rankin, 70, of Ashville, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
David was a deeply beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, mentor, teacher, friend, and more to so many people. He embodied God's Love and, while never asking of others, would always give help, his support, his time, or the even shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He loved his family, his friends, and his church. He loved his pets and all animals whether it was horses, dogs, cats - all of God's creatures could always find kindness, care, and a gentle loving home with David.
He was a leader in his church, although he might not have called himself that. David helped in any area where he could make a difference, including teaching Sunday School, being a Vacation Bible School volunteer, being on the Church Security Team, proudly serving on the Pastoral Selection Committee, down to holding the door for a new Church member, leading a prayer, saying a kind word, or working behind the scenes for others. Friendship Baptist was an aptly named Church home for him, because Friendship was something everyone could always find in David.
David grew up in Ashville and Springville, and graduated from Ashville High School. He later attended Gadsden State Community College and was a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. He lived in Saint Clair County, touching many lives in his community and making many lifelong friends. He spent many years working in the logistics and automotive industries where he was well respected by his coworkers. He has since been enjoying his well-earned retirement during recent years. We know that he is now celebrating his Heavenly retirement reunited with many friends and family in the presence of his Lord and Savior. While David is and will continue to be sorely missed by so many here, all those who knew him can take solace in knowing that the circle will be unbroken by and by.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Oscar Rankin and Sybil Wilson Rankin, and by his grandparents, Wakley Wilson and Grace Carter Wilson.
He is survived by his brother, Benjamin "Benny" A. Rankin Sr.; nephews, Ben Rankin Jr. (Michaele) and Tom Rankin (Sherrie); wonderful friend, Fran Riddle; aunts, Carolyn Wilson and Dixie Swindell; special friends Dewayne and Leah Baker and their sons Micah, Dusty, and Jacob; and numerous loving cousins and lifelong friends.
The memorial service for Mr. Rankin will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 19436 Hwy 411 Springville, Alabama 35146, on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
