Obituary of Mary Ed Jewell Campbell
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Ed Jewell Campbell, a cherished matriarch known to many as Grandma, Nap, or Mary Ed, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024, a day that would have marked her 75th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband, the late Dr. Buddy Campbell. A celebration of life will be held in her honor at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at her home, 29400 AL Highway 21, Talladega, AL 35160. Interment will follow at Munford Cemetery at 3:00 P.M. with Russell Johnson officiating.
Born on October 5, 1929, Mary Ed was raised by her parents in the community of Ironaton, Alabama, alongside her six siblings. She graduated from Munford High School in 1947.
In 1951, she embarked on a new chapter when she moved to Japan to be with her husband, who was stationed there during the Korean War. After returning to the States in 1952, the couple eventually settled in Talladega, Alabama in 1957 where they made their home and raised their three children: Buddy Jr., Connie, and Chris.
Mary Ed was a storyteller at heart, and her tales, much like her love, grew larger and more vibrant with time. She had a deep love for Westerns, and some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by family and friends at gatherings in her home. Her warmth and hospitality made these times special, creating memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to be a part of them.
A cornerstone of her family, she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Dr. Buddy Campbell; grandson, Dan Campbell Bussey; parents, Edwin and Mary Jewell; and sister, Dorothy “Dot” Mathes.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by her children, Harvey Burk Campbell Jr. (Sandra), Connie Campbell Bussey (Dan), and Chris Campbell (Nancy); grandchildren, Amanda Fielder (Wesley), Katie Campbell (Adam), Megan Carpenter (Gabe), Molly Smitherman (Corey), Buddy Campbell (Mary), Stephen Campbell (Jane), Clay Campbell (Julie), and Rebekah Bianchi (Matt); great-grandchildren, Andie Fielder, Danie Fielder, Quade Cobb, Robert Campbell Cobb, Adelaide Carpenter, Evie Carpenter, Brooks Smitherman, Collins Campbell, Dru Campbell, Carter Campbell, Mia Campbell, Abby Campbell, Emmitt Campbell, Ian Campbell, Mallory Campbell, Anna Kathryne Campbell, and Ellie Bianchi; sisters, Jac Johnson and Bitt Hamer; brothers, Ed Jewell, Rickey Jewell, and Dickey Jewell, and a host of nieces and nephews.
