Obituary of Brenda Gail Payne Callahan

Brenda Gail Payne Callahan, 82, previously of Talladega, AL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in McCalla, AL. Graveside rites will be held at Pine Hill Memorial Park in Talladega, AL on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Billy Williams. The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega from 12:30 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. prior to the service. Brenda Payne Callahan was born to Bolton Samuel Payne, Jr. and Irene James Payne on December 21, 1942. She was a proud graduate of Grady Memorial Nursing School in Atlanta, GA. Brenda worked for the State of Alabama Department of Public Health as a Tuberculosis Coordinator for 25 years before retiring and doing what she loved; spending time with family, shopping and traveling. She also attended First Baptist Church of Talladega and enjoyed attending ball games and events for her grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son, Warren Callahan (Lee Anne); brother, Gary Payne (Loni); grandchildren, Courtney Callahan Vernon (Sean), Abby Callahan, Graham Callahan, Corbin Callahan and Will Symms; great-grandchildren, Tucker Vernon, Mason Vernon and Tanner Callahan. She was preceded in death by her father, Bolton Samuel Payne, Jr; mother, Irene James Payne; brother, Gerald Payne; and sister-in-law, Lisa Payne. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ms. Sonja Edwards and the entire staff at Briar Glen Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, Ms. Sandra Spann and the many caregivers with Southeast Hospice; Ms. Amy Devereaux and the entire staff at Plantation Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility; Mrs. Ebony Colvin, and the many caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care. In lieu of flowers, Ms. Callahan’s family asks that donations be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Talladega, Grace Sunday School Class c/o Janice Newman, 216 North Street E., Talladega, AL 35160.
