Obituary of Sarah Louella Strickland

Sarah Louella Strickland, 97, of Lincoln, AL passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July15, 2024. Her family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A funeral ceremony will be held in her honor at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega with Charles Bellew and Frank Gunter officiating. Interment will follow directly after the service at Eastaboga Baptist Cemetery. Mrs. Strickland was a native of Loachapoka, AL but spent most of her life in Talladega and Coosa counties. She was the owner and operator of Brecon Laundry Mat for many years but devoted most of her life to raising her plethora of children and grandchildren. Her generosity was unmatched as she would sacrifice anything to make sure that others were taken care of. Even though she had an abundance of grandchildren that could not have been easy to keep up with, she made sure that she supported each of them in her own little ways. She never let any of her family leave without telling them she loved them. She was affectionately known as “Nanner” or “Nana” to everyone and had “extra” children and grandchildren everywhere she went. Her hardheaded, feisty, and tenacious spirit has been passed down through many generations and will be for many generations to come. There is so much to be said about a matriarch whose love and devotion for her family spanned for almost a century, but one thing is for certain, she will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Strickland; parents, John and Mary Frances Grant; father, Burse Eugene Waldrop; daughter, Gloria S. Pilkington; grandchildren, Mark Patterson, Clarence Patterson, Carl Gardner, Amy Gail Strickland, and Steven Ford Isbell Jr.; great-grandchild, Jayden Coomes, and great-great-grandchild, River Gunter. Mrs. Strickland is survived by her children, Elizabeth Milam, Betty Gunter, JT Strickland, and Stella (Joe) Gooden; grandchildren, James Milam, Valerie Cook, Lynn Shirey, Stacy Wyatt, Frank Gunter, Dewayne Gunter, Sarah Gunter, Selina Grogan, Pam Isbell, Tammy Wilson, Amanda Cranford, J.T. Strickland Jr., Nicolas Strickland, Michelle Smith, and Christina Cook; 36 great-grandchildren; 48 great-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-great-grandchild; sister, Mattie Fulcher, and a host of nieces and nephews. JT Strickland Jr., Nicolas Strickland, Eric Strickland, David Lee Dockery, Carl Gardner Jr., and Dewayne Gunter will serve as pallbearers.
