Elizabeth Elliott Turner (Betty), age 94, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on July 4, 2024. She was born in Talladega, Alabama on April 20, 1930 to the late Julian Lewis Elliott, Sr. and Margaret Jones Elliott. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nathaniel Snead Turner, III, and her brother Julian Lewis Elliott, Jr. She is survived by her son, Nathaniel Snead Turner, IV (Ellen), Cashiers, NC; daughter, Margaret Turner Wessinger (Samuel), Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Snead Turner V (Allie), Elizabeth English Turner (Luke Finney), Katherine Joel Wessinger, and Charles Samuel Wessinger; and three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Snead Turner VI, Willa Jo Turner, and Tycho Gunn Turner Finney. Betty grew up in Talladega, Alabama, and was a graduate of Talladega High School and the University of Alabama (1952) with a degree in English and Spanish. She was a member of the Delta Mu Chapter of Delta Delta Delta. Following graduation, Betty taught English and Spanish at O'Keefe High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She married Nat in 1955 and they were married for 67 years. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Floramore Garden Club, the Garden Club of Georgia, the Book Club, and the Junior League of Gainesville - Hall County, where she translated books into braille for the visually impaired. Betty was also a member of the Lanierland Duplicate Bridge Club and was an American Contract Bridge Life Master. She was a member of the Flower Arrangers Club of Georgia, where she was a Master Flower Arranger. Betty served as a Lady of the Realm of the Royal Court in the 1950 Memphis Cotton Carnival. She was an avid reader and could always be seen with a book in her hand. Betty loved her many friends and she was known for her thoughtfulness and her keen sense of humor. She loved her family deeply and was exceptionally proud of her children and grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in Talladega on July 9th for immediate family.
