Please share a memory of Dr. Frieda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dr. Frieda Rogers Meacham went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 31, 2024. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Gadsen, Alabama on August 7, 1948 and has been a resident of Talladega for the past 62 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Marian Rogers. Frieda is survived by her wonderful husband of 41 years, Anthony Meacham, her loving daughter, Emily Meacham Finck (Macy), her stepsons, De Meacham (Elizabeth) and Will Meacham (Sally), her grandchildren Alex and Savannah Finck, Seth and Cole Meacham, Nate and Virginia Meacham. She is also survived by her brother Phillip Rogers (Alicia) and several nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Talladega High School Class of 1966, and received her undergraduate degree from Montevallo, and her Master’s and Doctorate from the University of Alabama. She retired as Vice President of Instructional Programs for the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind after 43 of service. During her time at AIDB she was instrumental in developing and forming the Psychology Department. Because of her love and concern for the children that she served, she also formed the Human Rights Commitee to ensure that each student received a quality education in a safe learning environment, where they were treated equally and fairly. As shared by Dr. Jack Hawkins, former president of AIDB, “Dr. Frieda was among the finest people and professionals with whom I have worked. She was the epitome at AIDB and I was always proud to introduce her in that manner.” Frieda provided marriage and family therapy services along with her partner, Dr. Dixon Mitchell in Birmingham, AL. She also provided testing and counseling services to the Burton Center in Talladega and to many others who called on her for assistance. She was always ready and willing to help those in need. She was a lover of good music (Motown), dancing, and getting together with her many wonderful friends for a party. Frieda was a faithful member of the Talladega First Methodist Church, serving on numerous commitees. She was also a member of the Argus Club and past president of the Talladega Junior Welfare League. The family wishes to offer sincere thanks to her wonderful care givers, Tressy Spencer, Thyresia McMeans, Sharon Dykes, Tiffany Jackson, and the staff from Home Advantage Living for the excellent care they provided, with a special thank you to Heather Coppock. We also wish to thank the special nurses with Compassus Hospice who treated Frieda with such love and care. Andy Brown, Will Lawrence, Joel Elliot, Julian King, Jake Montgomery, and Macy Fink will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers you can make a contribution to the charity of your choice. She will always be My Girl. Online condolences may be offered at www.usreyfuneralhome.com. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega is directing the services.
