Please share a memory of Steven to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Steven Walter Harris, 61, of Kimberly, AL passed away in Irondale on Saturday, March 02, 2024. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 08, 2024 at Hepzibah Baptist Church with Cary Baker and Mickey Caldwell officiating. His family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow directly after the service at Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born in Talladega, but grew up in Alabaster, AL. Growing up, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the drum line of Thompson High School Marching Band. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1981. Mr. Harris was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Temple in Alabaster where he came to know his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a teenager. He was a resident of Chelsea, AL and the state of Florida for a little while before finally making his home in Kimberly, AL. Steven helped his father run the family business in Birmingham, AL. He also drove a truck for Boyd Brothers in the early 1990s and started working for Coca-Cola in August of 1996 where he was employed for 10 years. In 2006, he opened his own business, County Line Fuel Z, in Warrior which he ran for 16 years.
Steven was an avid University of Alabama football fan and loved to golf. He was always happy and fun to be around. He considered himself a jokester who enjoyed cutting up with everyone. Mr. Harris was known for his contagious smile and would talk to anyone who would listen. He also had a great love for his dogs. After losing his beloved dog, Niko, he became the proud owner of a Great Dane named Rex. Rex brought him a lot of joy and was always by his side, even at the grocery store, in his last days. Family was everything to Mr. Harris. He always made sure that his siblings knew how much they meant to him by saying things like “you’re my brother, man” and “baby sister” to them. He was a very loving and devoted father who enjoyed spoiling his children. He could never say no to them especially his baby girl, Kayleigh. His joyful and loving spirit will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Harris Jr. and Cynthia Gunter Harris; maternal grandparents, Howard and Myrtle Ruth Gunter; paternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Ollie Harris, and aunt, Joann Brewer.
Mr. Harris is survived by his son, Clayton Harris; daughter, Kayleigh Harris; brothers, Jeff Harris (Gina) and Alan Harris; sisters, Tina Moore (Denny) and Melissa Harris; nieces and nephews, Bronson, Abby, Marie, Nolan, Brock, Ty, Anna, Josie, Sabrina, and Jordan, and wife, mother of his children, and best friend for over 27 years, Tammy Harris.
Clayton Harris, Bronson Harris, Nolan Forehand, Ty Forehand, Brock Forehand, and Tim Brewer will serve as pallbearers.
Denny Moore, Jeff Harris, and Alan Harris will serve as honorary pallbearers.
