I will always remember our good times at Brooks Memorial Baptist church in Atmore, AL. Also, all the fun times with the youth group, some at your cottage on Santa Rosa island. It is still very vivid in my mind of all us going out to eat and Johnnie loved hot peppers, hotter the better; while eating sweat would break out on his forehead. He would just laugh and keep right on eating. Each of you have a very special place in my heart. So sorry for your loss, but we will see him soon.

Dr Stevens was a great friend. When I went back to nursing school at the age of 51 and worked with him at st Clair community clinic, he was much more more than just a teacher. We became good friends. He went far above wanting me to be the best I could be. He genuinely loved teaching, giving, wanting you to know why things were what they were. Great man, legacy and friend. He will be sadly missed.

Uncle Johnny was such a fun uncle! My favorite memory is when the family came to visit us in Memphis when I was a child. I got the mumps and was quarantined from all the guests. It was very disappointing. Uncle Johnny busted the quarantine to visit with me. He did something with puppets and voices to help a little girl feel loved. He was a man of God who genuinely sought the best for others. He was very loved.
To all my Alabama family, I know this loss is hard. I will be praying for you!
Love,
Dotti Weller Newberry

Dr. Johnnie Stevens was responsible for persuading me to come to Atmore to practice surgery after I finished my residency program. Both our families attended Brooks Memorisl Baptist church in Atmore. He was a wonderful man, doctor, and friend. We were so disappointed when he left his practice in Atmore.

Dr. Stevens gave my first flight physical at his office in Atmore, AL. In 1976. That also served as my student pilot certificate. He was a private pilot and had a very nice Super Viking - Belanca aircraft that he enjoyed flying. I also remember Dr. Stevens leading the congregational singing at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. He and I would chat about taking him flying again one day. Now he has his heavenly wings! Johnnie blessed so many people here with his caring service. Godspeed “Doc”!
