Obituary of Mike O'Dell

Mike O’Dell, 69, of Lincoln, AL passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 01, 2023 following a valiant two year battle with cancer. His family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Friday, November 03, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 04, 2023 at Blue Eye Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Howell and Michael Bline officiating. Mr. O’Dell will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Eye Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. O’Dell was born October 29, 1954 and was a lifelong resident of Lincoln, AL. He was a 1973 graduate of Lincoln High School, where he met the love of his life, Connie Vincent O’Dell, his wife of 50 years. He spent his career at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company from which he retired in 2013 having gained many friends and many nicknames, but his true life’s work was service to others. Mr. O’Dell was known to be only a phone call away when family or friends needed help, and was happy to lend a hand whether it be repairing electrical problems or helping to harvest a neighbor’s garden. His hobbies were many, but his fondest hours were spent reeling in big (and small) bass, cheering on the Crimson Tide and LHS Cross Country team, and spending hours working in his garden, the fruit of which was often shared with those around him. Mr. O’Dell is survived by his wife, Connie Vincent O’Dell; daughters, Lorrie O’Dell and Ashley (David) Walls; sisters, Bonnie Gosdeck and Peggy Shambaugh; brother, Tim O’Dell; brothers-in-law, Shannon Vincent and Kenneth Vincent, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. O’Dell; brothers, Herschel O’Dell, Richard O’Dell, John O’Dell, and Jimmy O’Dell, and sisters, Marie Allred and Linda Benton, and mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Vincent. Pallbearers will be Keith Isdell, Walter Hilburn, Glenn Champion, Keith Lewis, Ron Johnson, Kenneth Vickery, and Jamie Lewis. Hackey Jaggers will serve as an honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mr. O’Dell’s honor to Blue Eye Baptist Cemetery, 1605 Blue Eye Springs Road, Lincoln, AL 35096.
