Obituary of Gary Dale Battles

Gary Battles, 75 years old, of Mobile, Alabama, formerly of Anniston Alabama passed away at his home on October 7, 2023. His family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. A graveside service will follow the visitation at 2 P.M. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Talladega, Alabama with Floyd Battles officiating. Mr. Battles is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Dianne Parker Battles; daughter, Alesha Smith (Jeff); two granddaughters, Hannah Holmes (Gage) and Emma Darty (Scott); one great-granddaughter, Delainey Darty, and another great granddaughter on the way, Savannah Holmes. He is also survived by one brother, Bob Battles (Jan); one nephew, David Battles (Sherrie); great nephew, William Battles, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas, and Wanda Battles, and his in-laws, Chester Parker and Joann Parker Bishop. Mr. Battles was an active member of Woodridge Baptist Church in Mobile where he loved his Sunday school class, his pastors, and helping with VBS. As a young man, he served as a Deacon at Glenn Addie Baptist Church and Golden Springs Baptist Church in Anniston. He was a graduate of Walter Welborn High School in 1966 and attended Jacksonville State University. Mr. Battles was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed watching his wife return to the University of Alabama where she was a Crimsonette and returned each year to perform with the former Crimsonettes. Gary loved to travel, watch sports, and spend time with his family and friends. He was also a member of a Mystic organization of Mobile, AL. Mr. Battles loved Jesus and showed His love to everyone he met. Mr. Battles will be greatly missed and eternally loved. Eric Battles, Chuck Battles, Mike Battles, Robbie Robinson, Neal Phillips, Barry Battles, Jeff Smith, Scott Darty, and Gage Holmes will serve as pallbearers.
