Obituary of Bonnie Kay McGarity

Bonnie Kay McGarity, 69, of Talladega, AL passed away in Birmingham on Friday, September 29, 2023. A celebration of life ceremony will be held in her honor at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 04, 2023 at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega with Ottis Graves officiating. Her family with receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the ceremony. Interment will follow directly after the services at Midway Memory Gardens. Mrs. McGarity graduated from Talladega High School in 1972. She went on to work as a nurse for over 25 years at many places including: Talladega Health and Rehab, Coosa Valley Home Health, and the emergency room at Citizen’s Baptist Medical Center. She also volunteered as an EMT at the Talladega Rescue Squad. Mrs. McGarity was a loving wife, mother, Mimi, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Nell Key and Barron Taylor, first husband, Melvin Silas, and daughter, Carolyn Dial. Mrs. McGarity is survived by her husband, Neal McGarity; brother, Bobby Taylor (Drucy); grandson, Patric Dial; niece, Rachael Gregory (Brandon); great-nephew, Gunner Gregory; great-niece, Delilah Gregory, and extended family, Angie Granatelli. Patric Dial, Brandon Gregory, Daryl Flemming, Colton Carr, Roy Granger, and Tommy Shepherd will serve as pallbearers. Gary Parton will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Mrs. McGarity’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at UAB, especially the 6th floor Medical ICU nurses and doctors, for the care that she received and the compassion shown to her family.
