Obituary of Samuel Edward "Bo" Williams
Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Samuel Edward “Bo” Williams, 83, of Talladega, AL passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 23, 2023. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 08, 2023 at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega. His family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Williams was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. He grew up in the Bemiston community and graduated from Talladega High School in 1958. He was also a member of the football and basketball teams during his time at THS. After receiving a scholarship to play football at the University of Alabama, he transferred to Northeast Louisiana State College, currently known as the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he played football for three years. Mr. Williams then finished his football career at Jacksonville State University.
After his time playing football, Mr. Williams became a business owner in Talladega where he operated Bo’s Tire and Auto. He was also employed at and retired from Block USA.
He became saved and joined the church at the young age of 14 years old at which time he really wanted to become a preacher. Mr. Williams was a Godly man who diligently read his Bible. He always had plenty of spiritual wisdom to share with his family members. One of his favorite pieces of advice to share was, “There is nothing that you, me, and the Good Lord can’t handle.” Mr. Williams was a member and deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Mr. Williams was an avid University of Alabama football fan. He also enjoyed Talladega High School football games, gospel music, cutting his grass, and John Wayne movies, but his main hobby was spoiling his only grandchild, Anna Leigh. He was the epitome of a dedicated family man who was affectionately called “Papa Bo” by everyone. Horse hunting was always a cherished adventure for Mr. Williams and his daughter, Kim, who he loved to watch ride her horses. Another activity that was so special to him was listening to his and Anna Leigh’s songs, “Down to the River to Pray” and “Big Rock Candy Mountain”. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Erastus “Buck” and Maebelle “Bell” Williams; brother, Howard Williams Sr.; sisters, Lula Mae Taylor and Josephine “Josey” Williams, and great-nephew, Joey Williams.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy Williams; daughter, Kim Williams Newman (Reece); son, Keith Williams; granddaughter, Anna Leigh Williams Sylestine (Jaron), and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who he loved dearly.
