Mr B was a fantastic neighbor to myself and my family during our time on Woodhall drive. Within hours of bringing our first born child home she came with a cake welcoming “Big Lou” home, as my son and he share the same first name. He made the same gesture when my daughter was born. We enjoyed spending time with him tending his garden and learning names of his flowers. Every visit would end with a sack of goodies to take home and drink boxes he kept stocked for the neighborhood kids. Mr. B was always outside tending his or neighbors gardens and yards no matter the weather. I would oftentimes playfully scold him on especially hot days and bring him a big ice water because it was always understood he wasn’t ready to be done working quite yet. He was a very interesting man to speak with, and was always smiling at the sight of my kids. Anytime they had some new word to say or skill they would develop eh would chuckle and say “would you look at that” kind of to himself. I always enjoyed spending time with him and bringing the kids around because it seemed to bring him such joy. Even after we moved from the neighborhood we kept in touch and we could count on a shipment of holiday grapefruit every year. The kids always loved getting that in the mail from their old pal. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better neighbor to welcome us into
our first home as a family.
