Obituary of Tammy Wilson Hart

Please share a memory of Tammy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Tammy Wilson Hart, 52, of Cropwell, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023. Tammy Wilson Hart was born in Houston Texas on May 20th, 1971. Her family moved before she was 1 year old to Pell City, Alabama. Tammy grew up in Pell City. She was highly active in church and school. She was in the marching band in high school and graduated in the top 10 of her high school class. Tammy went on to study Computer Science at the University of Alabama in 1990. Tammy suffered a severe brain aneurism due to an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in her junior year at Alabama that nearly ended her life. Tammy overcame her injury faster and well beyond the doctor’s expectations. Her AVM was treated with radiation and determined to be cured. Tammy returned to school after missing only 1 semester of school. Became president of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Alabama with her Computer Science degree. Tammy went on to work for Bell South/AT&T, HP, and finally EBSCO as a software engineering manager and product owner. She advocated for and co-created an entirely new department within BellSouth that is still helping customers today. She was a top performer that was trusted and respected by all her co-workers. Tammy was an avid dog lover. Especially dachshunds. She volunteered at ASPCI in Pell City as a board member and foster coordinator. Tammy helped save thousands of animals over the years and found loving fur-ever homes for every one of them. Tammy was a competitive ballroom dancer. She began dancing shortly after her AVM. Her passion for music and dance helped her emotionally and physically recover faster from her injuries. Tammy suffered another brain aneurism in late 2014 that proved her AVM remained in her brain. She was treated again with radiation, but the procedure failed. Tammy required brain surgery to remove the AVM. Tammy underwent brain surgery in July 2018 to remove the AVM. She acquired an infection immediately after the surgery. The infection was devastating and impacted every part of her brain. The treatment required part of her skull to be replaced with a metal plate and several other devices to be implanted in her brain. Tammy once again beat all the odds and survived the brain infection. She recovered again well beyond the doctor’s expectations. She became well enough to walk with a walker, visit with friends and family, and enjoy another 5 years of life. However, in late 2022 her metal skull plate had to be replaced due to complications. The removal of the plate caused more complications within her brain. She started to decline a few months after surgery and passed away on September 7th, 2023. Tammy was a devout Christian and a beautiful person who loved and was loved by everyone she met. She will be dearly missed. Please send flowers to the funeral home. However, if the expense of flowers is too much, a small donation to her animal rescue, ASPCI, would be greatly appreciated. ASPCI PO Box 566 Pell City, AL 35125 She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Oswald, Eleanor Oswald, Austin Wilson, and Mary Wilson. She is survived by her husband, David Hart; parents, Wendell Wilson and Jane Wilson; brother, Devin Wilson (Leigh Ann); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph Hart and Marilyn Hart; brothers-in-law, John Hart and Michael Hart; and nieces, Jordan Wilson and Marleigh Wilson.
