Mrs. Sue Hawkins McEwen, 87, of Ragland, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

Mrs. McEwen and her husband, Billy, owned McEwen’s Grocery Store. She also worked alongside Sonny at Champion Drugs for forty-nine years. She was a member of Hardin’s Chapel Bible Church where she served as secretary for many years. She was a very caring person to so many. Across her lifetime, she mailed thousands of get-well cards, wedding congratulations, or birthday cards to individuals. She was a wonderful cook and baker and chances are, if you lived in Ragland, you were fortunate enough to taste one or more of her delicious cakes.

Mrs. McEwen was preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” McEwen; brothers, James Hawkins, Ray Hawkins, and George Hawkins; and parents, Hughel and Maudie Hawkins.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy J. McEwen; grandson, Jon McEwen (Danielle); and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City with Bro. Wayne Arnold officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service at Hardn’s Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to Amedisys Hospice.
