In Loving Memory of Rita Diane Foster: A Life of Harmony, Beauty, and Boundless Love Rita Diane (Smith) Foster, a cherished wife, devoted mother, adored grandmother (fondly known as Mops), left us on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on June 13, 1950, in Pell City, AL, Rita was the beloved daughter of Raymond Eugene Smith and Helen (Stewart) Smith. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ronnie D. Foster, her children Dale (Julie), Rory (Lisa), and Sundi (Tim) Hawkins, and her treasured grandchildren Carson (Katie), Landry (Chase Pate), Hudson (Julia), Aslan, Josiah, Lucius, and Elias. Rita also leaves behind her dear siblings Delain (Harold) Vaughan, Connie (David) Fowler, and Gene (Anita) Smith, along with countless nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she held close to her heart. Throughout the Pell City community, Rita was renowned for her multifaceted talents. A devoted member of First Baptist Church, her operatic voice graced the choir for an astounding 50 years. What began as the shy girl who sang in church blossomed into a powerful performer, enchanting audiences at churches, concerts, the Gatlinburg Passion Play, Talladega Speedway, and the Pell City Civic Chorus. Even in her 60s, Rita fearlessly embraced a new challenge, teaching herself to play the bass guitar, spreading her love of music to all who listened. Beyond her enchanting voice, Rita possessed a green thumb, transforming landscapes into beautiful gardens. Her joy derived from making the world around her beautiful, and her tireless energy was a testament to her passion. She could be spotted often at First Baptist, tending the flowers with a smile on her face. Not even a cancer diagnosis could hinder her zest for life; Rita refused to grow weary in her pursuits. For over 35 years, Rita thrived as a realtor, co-owning Realty Pros in Pell City alongside Ronnie. Embracing her innate ability to connect with people, she formed lifelong friendships within the real estate community, a testament to her warm and inviting nature. However, her talents extended far beyond music and gardening; Rita had a servant's heart, fueled by her profound love for Jesus. She embarked on transformative mission trips to Africa, Peru, and Ecuador with her church family, where she touched countless lives, providing both spiritual guidance and much-needed medical care. Radiating warmth, Rita was known for her beaming smile, infectious laughter, and boundless energy, which brightened the lives of all who knew her. Her kind and joyous heart endeared her to everyone she encountered. The void she leaves behind is immeasurable, and she will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. The arrangements to celebrate her life will take place on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at First Baptist Church, with visitation from 11 am to 2 pm, followed by the funeral at 2 pm. In honor of Rita's vibrant spirit, colorful attire is encouraged. For those who wish to make a contribution, donations may be made to the Beautification of the Grounds at First Baptist Church in Pell City, a cause close to her heart. In the tapestry of life, Rita's thread will forever resonate, weaving harmony, beauty, and boundless love into the hearts of those she touched.
