Obituary of Mary Fletcher Pruet Gaither

Funeral services for Mary Fletcher Pruet Gaither, 93, of Talladega will be Monday, 2:00 pm, at First Baptist Church of Talladega with the Revered Robert Klotz officiating. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Gaither was born in Ashland, Alabama, and graduated from Clay County High School. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Home Economics from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) and a Masters in Library Science from Jacksonville State University. Mrs. Gaither married Pearino Gaither on September 2, 1951. They moved to Elba, Alabama, where she taught Home Economics. They moved to Talladega in 1958 and Mrs. Gaither taught science at Talladega Junior High School, Home Economics at Talladega High School and was the Library Media Specialist at C.L. Salter Elementary. Mrs. Gaither has been a member of First Baptist Church since 1958 where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, member of the choir and on the church library committee. She has been involved with Carpenters for Christ and Pioneer Missions and traveled on numerous mission trips including Hawaii and Japan. Mrs. Gaither was a member of Women’s Missionary Union and the Gideon’s Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Gaither was a member of the Talladega Junior Welfare League, Argus Club, ADK, the Camellia Garden Club and the Talladega Study Club. She was also a docent at Heritage Hall and for the April in Talladega pilgrimages. Mrs. Gaither was preceded in death by her husband, Pearino Gaither, her parents, Troy and Wilburn Pruet, her brother, Dr. Charles Pruet, and her sister, Becky Newman. Mrs. Gaither is survived by her two daughters, Jenni Griffin (Tim), Kim Nall (Jonathan), four grandchildren, Luke Griffin (Lane), Meg Morris (R.D.), Mary Kenyon Nall and Anne Gait Nall, and three great grandchildren, Sam Griffin, Mary Griffin Morris and Sarah Beth Morris. Mrs. Gaither loved the Lord, her church, her family and her friends. A special thank you to caregiver and friend, Judy Grogan and to the staff at the Clay County Nursing Home. Pallbearers will be Tim Griffin, Jonathan Nall, R.D. Morris, Julian Newman, Lew Sample, Bill Futrell, Saxon Scarborough and Guin Robinson. Honorary pallbearers, Luke Griffin and Alex Pruet. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Talladega or the Gideons International. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega is directing services.
