Obituary of Robert M. Mellon Sr.

Robert Monroe Mellon, Sr, 99, of Talladega AL passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be held 11:00am on Wednesday May 31 at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel in Talladega. Joey Peters and Ricky Clark will officiate the service. His family will receive friends Tuesday May 30 from 5pm-7pm at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega. Mr. Mellon was born in Talladega, AL to Gentry & Ruth Mellon on January 6, 1924. He was a lifelong resident of Talladega County where he attended Talladega County Schools. He was employed as a Machinist and a Supervisor at Kockums Industries (Talladega) where he retired. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and collecting old clocks. He was a Christian by Faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served the Lord in his daily walk. He attended Central Baptist Church for 50+ years where he faithfully served on the deacon board. Mr. Mellon is survived by his wife Maudie Johns Mellon of Talladega. His son, Robert Mellon, Jr (Vicki); stepsons Randy Thornton, Rodney Thornton (Sherry), Erwin Thornton (Lisa); stepdaughters, Annette Thornton Yarbrough (Andy), and Jessie Thornton Edwards. His brothers, Jimmy Mellon (Charlaine), Joe Mellon and Wayne Mellon; sisters, Sara Henderson and Maretta Hall (Frank); 13 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Gentry G. Mellon; mother, Ruth Hutton Mellon; first wife, Doris Taylor Mellon; daughter, Linda Jones; siblings, Inez Searcy, Ruth Pearson, and J. C. Mellon. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Citizens Baptist Medical Center, Dr. Bashar A.
