Obituary of Dorothy Ann Horn Wilcox

Dorothy Ann Horn Wilcox, 80, of Talladega, AL went to be with her Lord and Savior following a lengthy illness on Saturday, March 18, 2023. A funeral ceremony will be held in her honor at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega with Dr. Keith Wrenn officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Pine Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Mrs. Wilcox was born on October 10, 1942 in Talladega, where she was raised on the family farm. Dorothy was a faithful and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She graduated from Talladega High School in 1961. She attended business school in South Carolina, and then returned to Talladega. She married the love of her life, Thomas Dwight Wilcox on April 20, 1963. She worked for Suburban Gas for about 30 years. She was very active in her church, from singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and Awana, and a variety of other ministries. Her hobbies included crocheting, crossword puzzles, needle pointing, reading (especially the Bible), and gardening. She did a lot of volunteer work in her community after she retired. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Dwight Wilcox; parents, Brady and Ruby Horn; brother, Lewis Horn, and sisters, Louise Horn and Mildred Gallahair. Mrs. Wilcox is survived by her daughter, Robin (Joey) LaLonde; son, Chris (Terri) Wilcox; four grandchildren, Julie (Alex) Masden, Shelly (Jeff Worley) LaLonde, Jessica (Joseph) Strickland, and Tommy (Emily) Wilcox; two great-grandchildren, Sammy Tate Stickland and Tobie Lynn Strickland; sisters, Flora Pratt and Pauline Limbaugh; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and special niece, friend, and caregiver, Peggy Freeman. Tommy Wilcox, Joseph Strickland, Jeff Worley, Jason Freeman, Tyler Clark, and Matthew Richards will serve as pallbearers. Sammy Tate Strickland and Alex Masden will serve as honorary pallbearers.
