Mrs. Betty Jean Gauntt Canada, 86, of Talladega passed away at her home on Thursday,
March 09, 2023, surrounded by her family. A celebration of life will be held in her honor
at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Ridge Pointe Events Venue, 4869 Plant
Road, Alpine, AL 35014, with Todd Henderson officiating. There will be a brief
reception after the service with interment following at Pine Hill Memorial Park.
Mrs. Canada was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. She was a graduate of
Talladega High School. She received a bachelor’s in education from Auburn University
and a master’s in education from the University of Montevallo. Mrs. Canada was also a
member of AOPi sorority. She retired after 31 years of service as a home economics
teacher at Munford High School. She was a member of First Methodist Church of
Talladega where she was in the Iota Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Houston Canada, and her parents, Curtis
Calvin and Ruth Rebecca Gauntt.
Mrs. Canada is survived by her daughters, Cheri (Alan) Ford and Cindi (Shannon)
Thornbury; son, Curt Canada; grandchildren, Meg Ford Wideman, Colby Ford,
Mackenzie Taylor Lightsey, Anneliese Ford, Madelyn Taylor, Millicent Taylor, Marilee
Taylor, Maddox Thornbury, and Holly Graves Painter, and great-grandson Wesson
Wideman.
Pallbearers will be Colby Ford, Alan Ford, Maddox Thornbury, Shannon Thornbury,
Michael Wideman, Zack Lightsey, George Smelley, and Scott Taylor.
