Obituary of Leslie Earl Lawson

Leslie Earl Lawson, 73, of Alpine, AL passed away at his home on Sunday, February 12, 2023. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Hepzibah Baptist Church with Beaver Tinsley and Justin Milliken officiating. Interment will follow directly after the service at Hepzibah Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Mr. Lawson was a native and lifelong resident of Renfroe, AL. He graduated from Winterboro High School in 1968 where he was a star basketball and baseball player. After graduation, he served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Hepzibah Baptist Church, and he retired from FCI of Talladega where he met the love of his life, Marilyn. They fell in love from the first day that they met. Mr. Lawson also taught country western dancing for 13 years, and he was an avid University of Alabama fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lawson, and mother, Olene Dowdy. Mr. Lawson is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marilyn Lawson; daughter, Courtney (Chris) George; sons, Leslie (Leanna) Lawson, Rodney (Brandy) Lawson, and Steve (Allison) Miles; grandchildren, Brandon Applegate, Taryn Kyle, Jayden Lawson, Emma Beaumont, Dylan Miles, Camden George, and Kelsey George, and brothers, Danny Lawson and Wendell Lawson. Brandon Applegate, Dylan Miles, John Vincent, Billy Klinner, Curtis Wills, and Chet Beaumont will serve as pallbearers. Camden George and Billy Ray Wills will be honorary pallbearers.
