Obituary of Nita Wood Thompson

Nita Wood Thompson left this world suddenly on December 29, 2022, at her home on Oak Grove Road in Munford. Born on March 29, 1960, she was a lifelong resident of the Talladega area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nancy Wood of Talladega, and a brother, Steve “Tootsie” Wood, also of Talladega. She is survived by her husband, Roger Thompson of Munford, her daughter, Brandy Richardson and husband, Mike, of Sylacauga and her grandchildren, Madison Hughes, Lindsey Burton, and Kylie Burton, all of Sylacauga, two great-grandchildren and another coming soon. After high school, Nita carved out a niche as a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. And this is where she blossomed. Of her many passions in life, her family topped the list. “Grandy,” as she was affectionately known, adored her family (especially the grandchildren) and welcomed every opportunity to shower them with love and affection. She had a soft spot for animals and had no tolerance for those who would abuse them. She was also an avid fan of Nascar and Auburn football. Visitation for family and close friends will be held at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 10:00am, with a memorial service to follow immediately after at 11:00am with the Rev.
