Obituary of Alice Parker Hurst

Funeral services for Alice Parker Hurst, 93, will be Friday, November 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Usrey Brown Service Funeral Home with Dr. Rob Paul and, Dr. Dennis Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Hurst died at Select Rehab in Talladega on November 12, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Hurst was educated in the Lincoln School System and graduated from Jacksonville State University. Mrs. Hurst was bookkeeper at Talladega Wholesale Grocery and taught many years at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf. Mrs. Hurst served, with pride, on the ARC Board in Talladega for many years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Talladega for many years until her illness. Her family learned a love for life and unyielding perseverance from her ability to overcome adversities and will to live. She always had a love for people and they, in turn, loved her back. Mrs. Hurst is survived by her son, William Clarence Hurst, Jr. and his wife, Sandra Jones Hurst of Talladega, son, Robert Parker Hurst of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren, David Alan Hurst and wife, Angela Fink Hurst, of Oxford, Joel Andrew Hurst and wife, Shannon Mattox Hurst, of Birmingham, and Corrie Hurst Weiss and husband, Brian Scott Weiss, of Chelsea, Abbie Hurst Woodard and Logan Ashby Hurst of Tallahassee, Florida. The six great- grandchildren are David Hurst, Jr., Andrew Hurst, Zachary Hurst, William Weiss, Bradley Woodard, and Parker Strickland. Survivors also include brother-in-law, Joseph Hurst and wife, Sylvia and sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Hurst of Talladega and brother-in-law, Paul Lumbye of Warrington, Virginia. She has a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hurst was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Zuber and Essie Cline Parker, of Talladega. Her loving husband of 68 years, William Clarence Hurst, Sr., died February 6, 2010. Active pallbearers will be David A. Hurst, Joel A. Hurst, B. Scott Weiss, Logan A. Hurst, Michael Fink, Walter Burt, Donald Richardson, Keith Martin, and Dr. H. Byron Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jim Davis, Bruce Ramey, Ray Robbins, Cecil Roberson, and Richard Klontz. Special friends are Rob and Melanie Paul, Terri and Melissa Barksdale, Bill Germany, Jerry Cooper, Charles Montgomery, Byron and Naomi Phillips, Mary Robinson, Wendy Westerhouse, Inez McWilliams, Frances Heath, Pam and Dexter Browning, Mary Evelyn and Linda Burton, Dr. Suzane Cooper, Idell Townsend, Virginia Upchurch, Lela Lockland, Emily Johnson, Nancy Lipscomb, Teresa Wideman, Ashley Mitchell, Candace Hanner, and Haley Gober. The family would like to thank The Gardens of Talladega, Select Rehab of Talladega, Citizens Hospital, Trinity Hospital, and New Beacon Hospice for the excellent care given to Mrs. Hurst.
