Obituary of William Earl Wesley

William Earl “Buddy” Wesley, Sr. of Talladega passed away March 31, 2022, at the age of 83. His funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, April 4, 2022, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Pastor Susan Lott Oaks officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 3, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.
Mr. Wesley was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Talladega where he was honored to serve as both Sr. and Jr. Warden. He was the owner/operator of Wesley Concrete and Construction Company for over 35 years. He also served in the Army National Guard. Buddy was a graduate of the University of Alabama from 1957-1960 where he played on the first football team coached by Paul “Bear” Bryant. While Buddy was known as a tough football player and for his dedication to his community, his greatest love and commitment was to his family and especially his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Dollie Wesley, his infant son John Wilson Wesley and his granddaughter Callie Wright.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte Wesley, son Jack Lyon Wright (Leslie), daughter Kelly Pickens Wesley, son William Earl “Buddy”, Jr (Isis), son John Paul “Jay” Wesley (Jennifer), and son Thomas McMillan “Tom” Wesley (Lonnie), stepdaughter Robin McElroy (Ricky), stepson Alan Nunn (Rhonda), sister Nancy Noel, grandchildren Alyssa Lee Lakey, John Paul Wesley, Jr., Taylor Haynes, Shea Cork, Zachary McElroy, Joshua Nunn, Lucas Nunn and great-grandchild Harper Marie Roland.
Pallbearers will be Jake Deese, Scott Taylor, Pat Cogburn, Hal Tolleson, Russell Tolleson and Jeff Tolleson.
Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Nix, Jeffry Camp, Dorman Hughston, Chock Johnson, Cary Cogburn, Danny Morrison, Gowan Embry, Dan Kearley and Jimmy Norred.
