Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nowland Hill Sutley went to be with our Lord and Savior March 7, 2022, after a long illness. She passed away at her son and daughter-in-law’s home in Talladega, Alabama. Elizabeth was born in Anniston, AL December 18, 1927, to Walter Cleveland Nowland and Vesta Brestia Holland. She attended Anniston High School and then went to work for the telephone company. She later worked for Anniston Sportswear where she retired after 47 years. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Oxford, AL. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved to cook for her family. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Evelyn Belzora McCormick (Albert), Margaret Inez McKee (Frank), Hazel Marie Dean (Rev. Walker), Mildren Owen (Rev. Percey); brothers Walter Cleveland Nowland, Jr (Mary), Andrew Jackson Nowland (JoAnn), and William H. “Bill” Nowland. She is survived by her son Terry Leon Hill (Patty), grandson Terry Leslie Hill (Tashia), granddaughter Andrea Hill Herbster (Richard), great-grandson Trevor Collin Hill, sister-in-law Joyce Nowland McKee (Tommy), and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 11, 2022, at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Talladega Hall of Heroes, 112 Court Square E, Talladega, AL 35160. Online condolences may be offered at www.usreyfuneralhome.com. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega is directing the service.
